Hey everyone! You know those books you bought ages ago with the intention of reading straight away, the ones you took home and then forgot about, the ones you really mean to get to but for now they’re just gathering dust on your bookshelves? Don’t worry: you’re not alone! I own dozens of books that I haven’t got round to reading yet, and here are just a few that I want to get to as soon as possible.
The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
Everyone knows the premise of this classic: Athos, Porthos and Aramis are musketeers in France, and D’Artagnan travels to Paris wanting to become one himself. There have been so many adaptations of this book but I’d love to finally read the original work.
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab
I don’t know much at all about this book and I’ve never read anything by Victoria Schwab, but the idea of an urban fantasy novel about a city full of monsters sounded intriguing. It looks different to anything I’ve ever read before (admittedly I haven’t read much fantasy) and I really want to get around to reading this one.
11.22.63 by Stephen King
A novel about travelling back in time to the 1960s and the dangers of messing with history? Everything about this looks amazing. I hadn’t heard of it until I saw the trailer for the mini-series two years ago, but as soon as I did I knew I wanted to read it. I’ve been put off starting it by the size of it – my copy is over 700 pages – but maybe one day I’ll take the leap and read it.
The Wicked and the Divine: Year One by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matthew Wilson and Clayton Cowles
I was so excited for the first volume of this graphic novel that I pre-ordered it way back in 2016. This is another one I don’t know much about, but I loved Gillen and McKelvie’s Young Avengers series and know that anything else by them will be equally fantastic. The series has had great reviews and I still want to read it, but I just haven’t. I will, though!
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Am I the only person left in the world who hasn’t read The Book Thief? I bought a second-hand copy for about a pound years ago but I never read it, although I have read Zusak’s lesser-known novel I Am the Messenger and I loved his writing style. I’m sure I’ll read The Book Thief one day; there’s so much hype around it that I feel obligated to read it.
There we are! Those are fives books that I’ve had on my shelf for a while that I want to finally read, and now that I’ve written them down maybe I will at last! What about you? Have you read any of these books? What books have you been meaning to read for years but haven’t yet? Let me know in the comments and follow me on Instagram @afewmorebooks for more book-related content. Thanks for reading!
